Shopify or WooCommerce: which is right for us?

Shopify when you want hosting, security and checkout carried for you and will pay monthly for the privilege; WooCommerce when you want ownership, are already on WordPress, or need what Shopify's model resists. I build both, so the recommendation follows your business, not my toolbox.

The longer answer

In practice.

The Shopify trade

Operational load carried, superb checkout, apps for everything, and in exchange: monthly fees that stack with apps, transaction margins, and a platform whose rules are not yours. For most product retailers starting out it is the pragmatic default.

The WooCommerce trade

Everything ownable and customisable, no per-sale margin to the platform, and in exchange: hosting, updates and security are now your problem, which means someone must actually own them. Right for content-heavy stores, unusual selling models, and owners who feel strongly about keys.

What matters more than the pick

The plumbing behind either: stock truth, orders into accounting, shipping without retyping, per e-commerce. A store is a system; the storefront is its visible tenth.
